You may think that travelling in a campervan is strictly to be enjoyed in Summer, however, there is so much you are missing out on by limiting your holidays to the warmer months! The winter season is the perfect time to hit the road in one of our luxury campervans and head off to a ski slope or pack up your photography equipment and capture some beautiful snowy shots. So, whether you are an advanced photographer or snowboarder, or you’ve never tried either, why not take a journey this winter when overseas holidays are risky, and many Christmas traditions are out of the question?

Photography

Many benefits of winter photography, such as fewer tourists and better natural lighting, are similar to those in Autumn, which you can read in one of our previous blogs, but there are certain specifics which make for stunning winter images:

Snow – This is the most obvious one, but a beautiful untouched snowy scene, or snow-covered mountaintops, should never be underestimated!

Ice Patterns – you may have to do a bit of searching for icy areas, but you can capture truly beautiful photos of frozen lakes, icicle patterns dangling from trees, or a frozen waterfall, the possibilities are endless.

Bare trees – there are practical benefits to photographing in the winter, as bare trees mean you have a much clearer shot of architecture or distant landscapes. In addition, the contrast between crisp, white snow and dark, eerie looking trees, can make for great photos.

Our luxury campervans are the perfect way to go on a winter photography adventure, as you can travel to remote locations and not have to worry about returning to hotels before dark – you can simply go where the inspiration takes you. Our campervans also have ample storage for all of the photography equipment, as well as enough power to charge large camera batteries, and the built-in table means you can view and edit your images while on-site to check you’ve got that perfect shot!

Snowsports

Most ski centres are open between December to April, so winter is definitely the time to dig out those snowboards and waterproofs, but it can be a challenge to find affordable accommodation in these remote areas. Well never fear, our campervans are the perfect option! With plenty of hidden storage for all your equipment, as well as the comfort of knowing you can return after a busy, cold day, to a heated campervan and quickly prepare a warming meal in the efficient kitchen area, you’ll be ready to get back on the slopes in no time. Below are a few of the most popular ski resorts in the UK:

Scotland – the Scottish mountains are the most obvious choice for skiing in the UK, with several centres for all abilities. Lecht 2090 is nestled in the Eastern Cairngorms, and being the smallest snow school in Scotland, is great for beginners. On the opposite end of the spectrum, Glenshee is the largest resort in the country, with 22 lifts and 36 runs when they are operating at full capacity.

Lake District – Yad Moss is home to England’s longest ski lift and isn’t for beginners, but this 4km stretch of runs and slopes is great for any thrill-seekers. Raise Helvellyn is a smaller centre that has up to 9 runs open, with the largest being a mile long.
