Beautiful Bournemouth

Until the early 19th century, the area in which Bournemouth now stands was just heathland where cattle grazed. In 1810, Lewis Tregonwell - regarded as the first inhabitant and founder of Bournemouth - visited the beach with his wife.

She loved the area and persuaded him to build a house there. This house now forms part of the Royal Exeter Hotel still in Bournemouth today.  27 years later other families started to move into the area, and by 1840, a small village had been firmly established.

The stagecoach which travelled from the neighbouring towns began to call in at Bournemouth, a sure sign Bournemouth was here to stay!

Bournemouth is blessed with a warm microclimate but that can’t be guaranteed for all 365 days of the year, unfortunately!  But don't worry, many of the attractions are designed to be enjoyed in warm weather as well as in the rain.

From indoor climbing and high wires, as well as museums and galleries, you’ll be able to have a great time whatever the weather.  The great thing about hiring a VW campervan in Bournemouth is they are 100% waterproof and camping in one is not dependent on the weather.

Bournemouth Beach

With so much to do, you may need a little longer to absorb all that Bournemouth has to offer!  But that’s ok, you’ll be thankful that you made the smart decision to hire a camper van from us as your VW California is built for comfort and relaxation, so you can always return to it for a cuppa and a nap.

Bournemouth Pier

Any visit to the seaside is surely coupled with a stroll along the pier! Set in the middle of ten miles of golden sand, Bournemouth pier offers stunning views across the bay to the Isle of Wight on one side and the Purbeck Hills on the other.

On the pier, you will find a wide and varied selection of attractions and entertainment for the whole family.  One-armed bandits sit alongside newer video games in the pier amusements located at the entrance.

Bournemouth Pier Zip

For those daredevils among you, at the far end of the pier, you will find some attractions to get the heart-pounding!  First up, RockReef.   An indoor activity attraction with 28 climbing walls.

Simply clip yourself into the harness and off you go!  The venue caters for all climbing abilities and with the verticle drop slid and the 'Leap of Faith' it's sure to excite the thrill-seekers.

Next is the awesome PierZip, the first of its kind in the world, the zip wire stretches from the pier to the shore.  A truly unique and unforgettable experience and a wonderful way to take in the amazing panoramic view of Bournemouth and its stunning coastline!   Bath Rd South car park BH1 2EW is an ideal place to park the campervan for pier activities.

After all the thrills of the Pier activities, or to maybe take a break from the sun, then Bournemouth’s town centre with a mix of department stores, high street shops and boutiques are sure to provide just the right amount of retail therapy.  Parking is widely available, and with its perfectly sized dimensions, the campervan has been designed to fit into everyday life, you'll find parking the campervan effortless.

The locals refer to Westover Road as ‘Bournemouth's Bond Street’, here you can shop for designer labels, art and jewellery along its canopied walkway. Treat yourself to something special, and don’t worry about storing it, there is plenty of room in the wardrobe in your campervan

Food and Drink

If you fancy taking a break from cooking in your camper for the day, Bournemouth has a diverse choice of places to eat.  Fresh seafood, local produce, traditional cream teas… no matter what you’re craving, you’ll find it in Bournemouth.

Award-winning restaurants, trendy cocktail bars and fast food chains around the resort so you can wine and dine by the sea in luxury, style and comfort.  Being by the sea, fish and chips go hand in hand for me ;)

For something quite different Aruba Restaurant & Bar is worth a visit just for the views from the restaurant alone! Famous for Caribbean inspired dishes, coupled with a fusion menu of burgers, pizzas and other firm favourites.

Chez Fred is a family-run fish and chip restaurant in nearby Westbourne. Daily deliveries from Brixham and Cornwall ensure the freshest tastiest fish will be served, along with it's famous twice-fried chips! Yum! Gluten-free options are also available.  Fish chips and a cup of tea, sitting in my campervan next to the sea.

Bournemouth Walks

Before it was an established holiday destination, Bournemouth was a real smuggler’s haunt. The long sweeping coastline was the perfect arrival point for contraband and the many chines presented perfect locations to hide and store exploits.

bournemouth walks.jpg

Today the chines are beautifully gardened and provide idyllic walking paths to escape the heat of the beach.  From Hengistbury Head to Alum Chine you can explore the land beyond the beach and imagine what it would have been like for smugglers in their prime.

We love dogs and they are welcome to come along and join in the adventure too in our dog friendly campervans.

The prospect of Bournemouth and Poole’s 12 miles of sandy shoreline and promenade is certainly enticing enough to make us want to take a walk. The golden sandy beaches, the fresh sea air and the sounds of soft waves is an instant mood lifter!  And even better with a four-legged friend by your side.  There are several beaches in Dorset where you are permitted to walk your dog on or off lead, time of year dependent.

A particularly beautiful walk is at Hengistbury Head, a short climb to the top and you will be rewarded with fantastic views of Mudeford, Bournemouth Pier and the Purbeck Hills.  With plentiful parking, the postcode for the nearest car park is BH6 4EN.

An added bonus is dogs are welcome at any time of the year, so, come rain or shine, hire a campervan from us and you and your furry friend can holiday at any time! Remember the onboard heating system in your campervan, a couple of presses on the heater button and you will all be as warm as toast in minutes!

Our dog friendly campervans are the perfect getaway choice to ensure everyone, including the furrier members of the family can holiday together.
